The U.S. Senate has passed legislation unanimously to reauthorize marine debris infrastructure programs.

The bill, S.3022, would appropriate $85 million annually from 2026 through 2030 for four grant programs administered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Grants related to infrastructure for post-consumer materials management would receive funding of $55 million per year. Grants for each of the other three programs related to drinking water infrastructure, wastewater infrastructure, and trash-free waters would receive $10 million per year.

Sens. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, and Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., co-sponsored the bill, which is now at the House of Representatives.
