Virtual Event May 26: Leveraging Blockchain for Seafood

The World Ocean Initiative and IBM will host the virtual discussion “Leveraging the power of blockchain for seafood ” on Wednesday, May 26 at 10 a.m. EDT/3 p.m. BST/4 p.m. CEST, where speakers will outline the different paths to deploying blockchain; detail how blockchain can drive industry transformation; and share case studies on blockchain experience.

According to a study by Oceana, seafood fraud is rife globally, with 20% of all seafood sold labelled with false information about source or species. Similarly, some seafood producers are environmentally irresponsible in terms of fishing methods, the wild species they catch or the feed they provide to farmed fish. Blockchain technology has the potential to solve many of these challenges and improve traceability in seafood supply chains for the benefit of producers, processors and consumers alike.
